The Mentoring Program is an initiative
taken by the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications to
help first year students settle into university.
The first few weeks of university can be tough and intimidating, especially
in a big campus like UNSW. The Mentoring Program provides support to first
year students and ensures a smoother transition into university. All the
trained mentors are EE&T students who can share their first year experiences
and provide guidance to the mentees.
Why does the
Mentoring Program Exist
Each
year, from all the students in engineering surveyed, most students
find adapting to a university environment to be difficult and
in many cases it affects their studies. Within the study, nearly
all students suggested that it would have been a lot more helpful
if they had known a friend in later years within the program.
The
mentoring program is based on the university's concern for students
who drop out of courses within the first session. The mentoring
program is there to give a hand to those who find the program
a bit too challenging. The programs you have chosen are challenging
degrees, the school of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications
and the Mentoring Program would like you to enjoy the courses
from your first year
